Stereotactic Surgery

dotStereotactic surgery allows accurate frame-based localization of a needle or electrode in three dimensions within the brain.

dotThe Radionics Cosman-Roberts-Wells (CRW) frame-based stereotactic surgery system used at MetroWest Medical Center is accurate to < 1 mm using MR or CT scans for localization.

dotStereoPlan software allows accurate computer target calculation within the brain and selection of optimal probe trajectory to avoid eloquent brain and postoperative neurological deficits.

dotAtlasPlan software allows accurate probe localization in specific anatomic areas of the brain.

dotCT- or MR-guided stereotactic needle brain biopsy is performed for tissue diagnosis of small deep brain tumors or other pathological lesions and for brain abscess aspiration.

dotMR-guided radiofrequency pallidotomy and thalamotomy are performed for treatment of symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

dotMR-guided thalamic stimulator implants are used for tremor control due to a variety of pathological conditions including essential tremor and Parkinson's disease.
